INSPIRED: On a walk with my family along De La Vina Street in Santa Barbara,
we paused in front of a music store with a poster of the Beatles in the window. For months prior, we
danced around our living room to the tunes of Paul, John, George and Ringo, and I had been trying to
answer my son's question, "Who are the Beatles?" At that moment, I knew this was the life-sized
answer I needed for such a huge question. He could now "picture" the Fab Four through the
generational bridge of a photograph.

STORY/INSPIRED: I was on my way to pick up a friend and drive to New York for the Photo Plus show at the Javits Center around 6:30 AM. I made a wrong turn and was doubling back. It was then this otherwise ordinary stand of trees presented itself to me. The early light combined with a cool October morning produced a beautiful low-lying fog/mist. The dewey morning plus the fall color of the trees provided an early melancholy scene...irresistible.

INSPIRED: This was taken from you office at work. Every day,
one of these crows comes and lands outside my office window and starts pecking at my window. On
this occasion, another one joined him and I snapped this shot. I liked the "heart-shape" that the
two birds made while tussling with each other.

STORY/INSPIRED: I was watching my daughters play in our front yard, and I was inspired by the
stormy clouds in the horizon. My daughters also noticed the sky changing, and ran for their
umbrella in anticipation. It was a lovely fall day and I am glad I caught that moment.

STORY/INSPIRED: It was taken during Christmas 2009. Some friends and myself had been out
catching up and celebrating. We were in a nightclub in our hometown, while we were inside it had
been snowing heavily. When we emerged there was a thick carpet of snow everywhere. We started
walking to find a taxi, which was difficult because of the weather. I spotted a group of people
huddled together under the warm lights of the filling station forecourt and grabbed the shot.

STORY/INSPIRED: This was the first day of a camping trip I went on with two of my best
friends. We just picked up some firewood and were headed to the campsite. As we were driving I
noticed this sweet sunset right in front of us. It felt like we were driving right into it. Aside
from the hiking, fishing, cooking, and canoeing, for me the best moments were the conversations that
took place in the car. I'll never forget this camping trip which was the first year of a tradition I
hope continues for a long time.

STORY/INSPIRED: The girl on the scooter caught my attention because she was
so boldly colorful against the backdrop of the street and the cars around her. I chose to use the
app Photoforge to blur the scene around her so as to keep the focus of the viewer on Scooter Girl. I
left the streetlights in place to create context.

STORY/INSPIRED: This past January, absolutely invigorated by an overnight snow dump and the
opportunity for a "guys weekend", my friends and I caught the first chair at Steamboat. When
you're up at that elevation, the constantly varied weather and lighting can do wonderful things you
just have to be ready to take the shot. With this, my friend Chris who's a commercial pilot and an
incredible skier, was so anxious that he jumped onto the chair in front of the group. The
extraordinary lighting along with the low visibility created this very surreal moment; one that
speaks to the visible and auditory beauty the isolation of a true powder day can offer.

STORY/INSPIRED: I walked out to the apartment patio to enjoy some afternoon sun, which is a
rarity in PDX, and I find my cat, Slugger and my wife, Lindsay soaking up the rays. They didn't even
notice me come out. I always have my phone on me not for it's intended purpose but for taking
pictures and I quietly made my way around to compose my shot. I wanted to make sure the whole scene
was in the frame. I love how Lindsay is in a perfect sunbeam and Slugger is sprawled out in the
shade and is copying her ever move. I actually wanted to get a lower angle and when I went for a
second shot Slugger noticed me and jumped up and ran away.

STORY/INSPIRED: Corn Field in Niwot, CO. I photograph my life through my phone. Being an art major, I have learned that inspiration comes all that you include in your life. I choose to express myself through my camera, but I am inspired by the entire world around me. I tend to photograph people and objects in my every day life in a way that preserves the feeling of the moment the photograph was taken.

STORY/INSPIRED: It was the day after Christmas and New York was blanketed in a deep sea of white. It was very cold and we had just started to be hit with a blizzard that we were totally unprepared for. I looked out of my window and saw these poor people battling with the extreme wind, deep snow and near zero visibility. I was captured with the beauty of the scene as it was bathed in an unearthly glow coming from a near by street lamp. I eased open my window and leant out into the elements. Barely able to hold on to my iPhone as I composed the shot and struggled to keep a hold on to my frozen windowsill.

STORY/INSPIRED: The image was taken at the National Gallery of Art's East Wing, a very public and usually busy space. I was first drawn to the background, because of its monochromatic and linear attributes. After waiting a few minutes and watching visitors walk up and down the stairs I knew I had the right subject/moment with the gentleman alone at the bottom of the staircase.

STORY/INSPIRED: I'd seen this tree and others like it with ivy crawling high up the trunk, but the ivy was always green and leafy. STORY/INSPIRED: "Morocco." I always travel with my photo equipment, but I often use mobile camera for two reasons. First, I love to take photos in an intuitive way, with discreet equipment. The "luck factor" is predominant, and I love the poetry that emerges sometimes from these pictures. And secondly, we can't cheat with this type of equipment, and its use requires rigor in the composition of the picture, just fill out the frame and catch an emotion.
